Reasons why the refrigerator is the most necessary professional appliance repair, and how to prevent needing one
Refrigerator repair: It’s that one professional appliance repair that you hope you never, ever have to deal with.
Your refrigerator is your most essential appliance in your house, your apartment, or your college dorm room. Unless you’ve stocked up on crackers and Twinkies, you need your refrigerator to preserve your food. If something goes wrong, you need to act fast on getting a refrigerator repair before everything inside goes foul. And take it from someone who has dealt with his fair share of broken refrigerators, you do not want that to happen!
Refrigerator Repair, or Refrigerator Replace?
The typical refrigerator lifespan, depending on its initial quality, lasts approximately 8-14 years, so even if you are seven years down the road with your refrigerator, it is still worth it to call for professional appliance repair. A refrigerator is large, heavy and unwieldy, so you don’t want to just go about tossing each one that has a glitch in the ice machine. Not to mention that it takes time to pick out a new refrigerator, get it home and installed properly. In most situations, a refrigerator repair is much faster, more affordable and more convenient than finding a replacement.
Avoid needing a professional refrigerator repair with this simple tip:
With some simple maintenance and upkeep, you can avoid needing a professional refrigerator repair for as long as possible. The most important thing you can do is to regularly clean the mechanics, or coils, of your refrigerator.
Refrigerators come in three different configurations: If your refrigerator has coils on the back, you should check them about twice a year to see if dirt and dust have collected. If so, the filth should be thoroughly cleaned and removed. If the coils are on top of the unit, check and clean them annually. If the coils are underneath the unit, they only need to be cleaned once every two or three years.
Dirty coils are the number one reason people call for refrigerator repair, and they don’t even know it! If refrigerator coils are not cleaned regularly, the build up of dust and dirt will cause the compressor to overheat. This will cause the unit to shut down causing the food in your refrigerator to spoil which would be costly.
Whether you have a GE refrigerator, Whirlpoor, Maytag, Subzero, Kenmore, Amana or any other type of refrigerator, keeping it fresh and clean will allow you to avoid a professional appliance repair for as long as possible. Stay tuned for our next blog about cleaning refrigerator coils!
